Mistakes Have Been Made

From our founder:

I got the text at about 9pm, “I made a mistake. Don’t worry, I’ll fix it.”

That text came at the end of a long day of painting a 1/1 M TOUR bag for Sergio Garcia to use in the 2026 Masters.

From my perspective, I think I handled it well; I went to sleep.

The next day I woke up 3 hours ahead of LA time zone and had to patiently wait for the west coast to wake up. I think I handle that well too; I surfed.

Then, at 10:30am my time (7:30am PST), I sent the text, “So what happened?”.

Can you spot it?

She put ‘07 twice. Somehow in the process of aligning and re-aligning the dates that Sergio has competed in the Masters, Nicolle’s final print-out had ‘07 at the bottom of column one and the top of column two…

And then she traced it and didn’t notice. And then she painted it and didn’t notice.

It was only after her post on our inner circle app that a member commented that there were two ‘07s.

So, here we are. 7:30am PST and Nicolle is telling me not to worry.

Instead of getting upset about it, she immediately thought of three reasons to be grateful for the mistake.

She had a plan to try and remove the paint (next to impossible) and she would let me know how it went.

“Wait”, I said.

Let’s take a look and see what happened in ‘07. Maybe there’s some cosmic reason this happened and we should look into it before we call it a mistake to be erased.

I searched for what happened in Sergio’s life in 2007. “Maybe something special happened in that year and we can leave it”, I said.

Well, something special did happen.

In 2007 Sergio lipped out an 8’ putt that would have won him the Open Championship at Carnoustie.

He later lost to Padraig Harrington in a playoff.

In a recent interview, Sergio said:

"I know that a lot of people would say probably the British Open 2007 when I lost that playoff and I had the Putt to win and stuff like that. Obviously yes that was a bit of a low."

"I was in Spain and I remember I was walking on the beach and trying to kind of get my head straight and I was like, 'Hold on I know that you just lost the British open and obviously you wanted to win it so badly. But why are you making it such a bad thing - such a burden on you when you did so many good things to put yourself in a winning position. And you just focus on what happened on the last hole and then the playoff.”

"I know that people say the second place is the first loser, I understand that but I'd rather be the first loser than the 20th loser. I rather the second than 30th or something like that because at least I know that if I'm second, most likely I've had a chance of winning. So it's just the way you look at it."

Yes Sergio, it’s just the way you look at it.

He turned a negative into a positive.

So that’s what Nicolle did.

She wiped the 07 off the bag, leaving some traces that just can’t get clean.

And she added a small Carnation (Spanish flower).

A carnation to signify the positivity after Carnoustie.

Positive that everything happens for a reason,
