Achievements & Failures

From our founder:

"In the last 7 years there really hasn’t been anything I’ve felt “proud” of with MNML GOLF.

I’m extremely happy with the durability and quality we’ve gotten the bags to. But it’s hard to be really proud of any model when I’m constantly designing innovative models that will drop a year or two from now.

I’m grateful for the customers who choose to Trade-it-Forward when buying a new bag. That’s a great achievement but it really belongs to the customers who donate their bags.

And, I sometimes wonder if “proud” is a good emotion to feel. I feel like pride can lead to arrogance and potentially take away some “hustle” mentality.

Anyway, I’m writing this email because we did something that made me feel proud.

Last week, Sergio Garcia used a MNML GOLF M COMP in a European Tour event - oh and he nearly won the tournament.

And if you’re wondering, he paid for it. No endorsement deal. No free product tied to promotion. Just a freaking legend choosing to game a MNML GOLF bag on the big stage.

So yesterday, after reflecting on seeing the bag on TV, I had a conversation with Campbell.

The conversation went like this:

Sam: I don’t think there is anything that could prove credibility more than to have a Masters winner using our bag on a major tour - and not just using it, he actually is competing at a super high level.

Campbell: Yeah it’s pretty sweet.

Sam: Yeah like, did you talk to your dad about it yet?

Campbell: No not yet but I’m sure he’s going to be excited.

Sam: Yeah I mean, this is pretty legitimate.

Campbell: Yeah.

Sam: So I mean, I guess there’s nothing we can really do or should do about it but I just think we should at least pat ourselves on the back about it.

Campbell: Yeah for sure. I’ve been talking to our members at the club about it and they’re pumped.

Sam: Oh yeah that’s sick for them! Yeah cool.

One day later (today) I still have a lot I want to get done. My calendar is full with to-do-items and calls - now finishing this email at 7:30pm.

I realize that nothing we ever do will put us over the finish line.

And, knowing myself, I don’t ever want to get there anyway.

I do, however, want to take a minute to celebrate this small achievement with you all.

If you’ve been with us from the start or you just found out about us last week, you’re a part of this journey.

So let’s take a deep breath, sigh it out, and feel good about what we all are a part of:

Supporting the creation of the best golf bags for the player, and for the planet
Questioning our way of selling and consuming in this modern world
Treating each other like family - even in business

Here’s to 100 more failures and hopefully a few more achievements. (You may see MNML GOLF at the Masters this year ;)"
