A Pencil Bag With A Stand?

A Pencil Bag With A Stand?
From our founder:

"The very first sample MNML GOLF bag was small. It was like a cross between a pencil bag and a carry/stand bag.

It was designed for casual rounds after work - hence the music and phone elements.

But as sample one turned into sample two, and two to three, the bag got bigger.

I wanted to make one bag to solve every golfer’s needs. Minimal.

Here we are in year six and I feel somewhat differently.

With the addition of all the tech, the more durable material, and the added storage, our 4th iteration of our flagship model is… big. It’s 6lbs. It’s not very minimal. From a design sense it is clean and minimal but from a true golf perspective, it’s more than the essentials..

Our M COMP model is stripped down and lighter but still not the bag I would use for that afternoon walk in the park.

So I’m left with a challenge; make the best bags for multiple player types - keeping the aesthetic and soul intact.

By the end of 2026 you’ll see:
MP1: Minimal Pencil V1
M COMP: Minimal Competition V1.5
ML1: M COMP Dylan Brack Left Hand Model
MR3: Minimal Recycled V2
M TOUR: Tour Use only

Going from 1 bag to 5 seems not minimal.

And if we add a stand offering to the pencil bag in 2027, that would be 6 models.

Not to mention we are going to offer navy in all our Recycled Ripstop bags.

So three colorways and 6 models… Life was simpler with one model in two colors.

Can we keep our soul with this much growth?

Can we make the best bags in 5 categories?

Should we leave it where we are now and stick with 3?

These are the questions that kept me up at night for the past few months.

This morning I got an email from the factory inquiring about all this growth - if it’s something I have faith in…

So I meditated.

Here’s what I think: at the very beginning, I said we’d never make a product that was already here. Essentially, if it already exists in a quality form and is made responsibly, we don’t need to make it.

So here’s the test.

Does a pencil bag with a stand, made from recycled materials, with a 5 year utility warranty exist? No.

Does a left-hand specific model made from recycled materials exist? No.

Does a tour bag made with performance in mind and with recycled materials exist? No.

If this is the standard, we need to make these models.

We need to give golfers the option to buy the best bag possible that suits their style of play and does it at the highest quality in the most sustainable way.

And that’s why we are growing.

Not for profit, but for the player, and the planet."

Minimally minded grower,
Sam Goulden
